Advocate James Magodi graduated from Wits University in 2004, with a 4-year LLB Degree. He then joined Cliffe Dekker Attorneys as a Candidate Attorney in 2005. In 2006, he joined Old Mutual PLC (Private Wealth Management). In 2007/08 he joined Sanlam Connect. In 2009, he joined the Johannesburg Bar as a pupil under the mentorship of Greg Amm at Meisels Chambers. He was also admitted as an advocate by the Johannesburg High Court in March 2009. After passing his pupillage, he started practising towards the end of 2009 and took up Chambers at the Constitution Hill Group in 2010.


Areas of Specialty


Advocate James Magodi attends to the drafting of pleadings, gives advice on problems and explains difficult choices to attorneys and to clients. He also negotiates with colleagues over the settlement or the conduct of cases and guides witnesses to give their evidence by asking questions and testing the truth and value of the evidence given by witnesses, by cross-questioning them. His work also involves the drafting of arguments by setting out the facts and law relevant to the decisions to be decided. Advocate Magodi also argues cases for clients to persuade a judge, magistrate or Arbitrator and researches the law in books and on computer databases.
